The Feast Day of Saint Marina in Andros
On Wednesday, 17 July 2024, the holy memory of Saint Marina was honoured at the historic Holy Monastery of Saint Marina in Apikia, Andros, with the serving of the Divine Liturgy, in which the local shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos II of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Kea, and Milos presided, and was joined in concelebration by Archimandrite of the Monastery, Father Cherubim, and other clergy from surrounding Parishes as well as by Protopresbyter Christos Papaioannou from Cyprus, where a large presence of faithful and devout pilgrims from Andria, pilgrims and Cypriots were also present, who particularly respect the Holy Monastery and honour the holy Icon of the Saint.
Preaching the Holy Sermon, His Eminence Metropolitan Dorotheos II of Syros, Tinos, Andros, Kea, and Milos, referring to the admonition of the Apostle Jude in his letter ” to please contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints”, urged the faithful to keep this in their hearts, despite all the difficulties of everyday life, and to keep their faith alive in Christ, just as the venerated Holy Great Martyr Marina did, with whose strength she was able to courageously face martyrdom, and asked them to keep this “once for all delivered faith” steadfast and unchanging, which has been watered by the blood of the martyrs and the tears of the faithful and strengthens them in their daily struggles and personal struggles.
Metropolitan Dorotheos also thanked and congratulated the Abbot of the Monastery, Geronda Kyprianos and the priest in charge of the monastery’s orderly operation, Archimandrite Cherubim, and also appointed the son of the Presbyter Fr. Ioustinianos as a Reader, despite his young age, appreciating and rewarding his love and zeal for the holy chanting stand, while his father was appointed an Oikonomos, in recognition of his fruitful ministry in the small Parishes of Fallika, Sasa and Koureli of Andros.
Afterwards, a monastic meal was offered to all in the refectory of the Monastery.
