Bayswater Beholds “A Great & Mighty Wonder”
On Thursday, 19th December 2024, the 4th Annual Archdiocesan Christmas Concert sponsored by Christos Lazari Foundation took place in the historic Cathedral of Divine Wisdom in Bayswater. Over 300 individuals attended the event, which has become a cherished Christmas tradition. The Cathedral community was joined by Orthodox clergy from sister jurisdictions in the United Kingdom, together with religious leaders from other Christian faiths, and members of the diplomatic community.
The evening began with a warm welcome from the V. Rev. Archimandrite Nephon Tsimalis, Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese and Dean of the Cathedral. The concert opened with Byzantine Christmas hymns chanted by the Archdiocesan School of Byzantine Music directed by the Rev. Protopresbyter Jospeh Paliouras, followed by the world-renowned Voces8 Scholars Ensemble directed by Harry Mobbs, performing a medley of beloved Christmas carols and hymns. During the intermission, His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas offered a greeting and reflection on the Great Feast of the Nativity.
After the Concert, a festive vegan reception was offered in the Cathedral Crypt, during which the Archdiocesan Choir performed traditional Greek carols accompanied by instruments, while those gathered enjoyed the holiday atmosphere and fellowship.
