Orthodox Christians in war-ravaged Syria, who have persevered amid eight years of attacks and threats by armed Islamist groups active in the ongoing civil war, rejoiced this month with the ringing of the Church bell and the celebration of a Divine Liturgy in a building next to the St. George Church of Arbin.

The Cathedral, located a few kilometers east of central Damascus, has been severely damaged in the conflict.

The Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East’s Auxiliary Bishop of Sayd-NA-ya, the Right Reverend Bishop Luke, officiated at the Divine Liturgy, on the occasion of the beginning of restoration works at the church.
