Christmas carols in Orthodoxy’s ancient seat

The Metropolitan of Selyvria, His Eminence Maximos, officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the historic community church of Sts. Constantine and Helen, with representatives of political parties, municipal officials and numerous congregants in attendance.

In the celebrated Bosporus district of Yeniköy, known in Greek as Neohorion, or Nihori for short, a group of carolers sang traditional Greek Christmas carols, going door to door to the homes of Orthodox Christians – a long-standing custom. Christmas in Nihori, in fact, was shown on a Turkish channel’s evening newscast.
