Despressing figures regarding persecution of Christians worldwide for 2019

The year that passed, 2019, marks one of the worst in recent memory for Christians around the world, with persecution taking on genocidal dimensions, according to a report by the organization “Open Doors”.

The US-based group reports that roughly 260 million people worldwide faced persecution for their Christian faith, a number that is up by 15 million from the previous year. Nearly 3,000 people were killed for being Christians, with slightly more than 3,700 jailed without trial. Finally, almost 9,500 attacks against churches and Christian-affiliated buildings were reported.

The country considered as the most hostile to Christianity and its faithful is the isolated communist dictatorship of North Korea.
The regime’s mass media often herald a so-called victory by the state against a “… Christian threat.”

However, according to the organization Open Doors, Christianity continues to persevere in the totalitarian state, with an estimated 400,000 Christians active in an underground Church movement.

Publicly expressing one’s faith or engaging in church services, even in private, is outlawed by the communist regime, under the threat of arrest, incarceration in a concentration camp or even execution.

Regime strongman Kim Jong-un , a third generation hereditary communist tyrant, recently outlawed any celebration or trappings of Christmas, instead proposing that his deceased grandmother’s birthday, on Christmas Eve, be commemorated instead.
