Greek diplomacy eyes strengthening of ties with Diaspora; Orthodoxy an integral component

One of the priorities of the months-long Greek government appears to be a strengthening of relations with expatriate Greek communities around the world, with the relevant foreign ministry also taking into consideration the very significant role that the Orthodox Church plays in maintaining the Diaspora’s links with the motherland.

New Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Costas Vlassis, who holds the expatriate Greeks portfolio, recently wound up an official visit to the United States, where he held meetings with representatives of the Greek-American community, officials of the US federal government as well as the Archdiocese of America.
