The Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Irinej, on March 3, 2020, visited the under-reconstruction Cathedral of St. Sava in New York City.

The Serbian Patriarch referred to “mixed feelings” while touring the cathedral, expressing his joy over the progress of rebuilding, but also sadness from the calamity that struck the Serbian Orthodox community in New York City. The Cathedral sustained major damages from a 2016 fire that erupted on Easter Sunday.

His Holiness also thanked the Greek Orthodox community of NYC and Archbishop Elpidophoros, for the blessing, as he said, whereby Serbian Orthodox parishioners and clerics hold services at a local Greek Orthodox church, while the St. Sava Cathedral is being rebuilt.
