Belarusian Church and state urging those who have recovered from coronavirus to donate plasma
The Belarusian Orthodox Church, together with the republic’s Ministry of Health, is calling upon Orthodox faithful and all who have recovered from the coronavirus to donate plasma, the Church reports.
Valuable blood components with COVID-19 antibodies are needed for plasma transfusions for seriously ill patients. Belarus, as well as Russia and many EU countries are implementing this practice after it was successfully used in China.
On April 24, Belarus.by reported that 6 out of 9 patients who received plasma transfusions were showing signs of recovery. As of that date, 1,120 patients had recovered from the virus, thus becoming potential donors.
On the Church’s side, the program is coordinated by the Belarusian Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service.
