About three billion rubles donated annually for construction of Orthodox churches in Moscow

Moscow, July 27, Interfax – Sponsors and parishioners donate about three billion rubles ($43 million) every year for the construction of Orthodox churches in Moscow, the State Duma deputy, curator of new churches’ building in the capital Vladimir Resin said.

“The major benefactor and donator are people, Muscovites, residents of the capital’s districts. They feel a need for spiritual development, for preserving traditional foundations of their families, for transforming their district, for creating a new chronicle of Moscow. Our people are wiser and more far-sighted than many politicians. Our people understand how to build future for their children and grandchildren,” Resin said during his tour around churches under construction in the north-west of the capital.

There are 28 acting churches in the North-West Administrative District of Moscow. Five churches have been taken into use, six more are under construction and three churches are in a projecting phase.
