Feast day of St. Anthimus, the bishop of Nicomedea

The Church today venerates the memory of Anthimus, the bishop of Nicomedea.

He boldly confessed his faith before the Roman Emperor Maximian, and after frightful tortures, was beheaded in the year 303 or 304.

The Church today also commemorates the removal of the relics of St. Nectarios of Aegina, in September 1953.

Nectarios was canonized as a saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in April 1961. The feast day of St. Nectarios is celebrated every year on Nov. 9.

A feature and documentary is posted today on the pages of the Orthodoxia News Agency, showing the inauguration and dedication of the iconic St. Necktarios cathedral on the island of Aegina, in 1994.
