Anniversary of 9/11 terror attacks; memorial service officiated by Archbishop of America Elpidophoros

Friday marks the 19th anniversary of the dastardly attacks by terrorists who hijacked four commercial planes in order to slam them into the WTC towers, the US Pentagon and another site.

More than 3,000 people lost their lives in a terror operation masterminded by the insidious al qaeda group of fanatics.

The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, today was joined by family members of Orthodox Christians who perished on 9/11 for a memorial service in front of the St. Nicholas National Shrine, at Ground Zero in Manhattan.

The small St. Nicholas chapel was the only building that did not belong to the WTC that was completely destroyed in the attack.

From this very first moment of his enthronement, Archbishop Elpidophoros has set a goal of reopening the new St. Nicholas National Shrine on Sept. 11, 2021, the 20-year anniversary of the terror strikes.
