Historic Church of the Annunciation in Melbourne to reopen during upcoming festive season

The historic Church of the Annunciation in Melbourne is set to re-open its doors to the faithful for the first time since a devastating fire in 2016.

The restoration works are expected to proceed right up until the upcoming Christmas season when the faithful will be able to return to the church, and with all precautions in place to prevent exposure to the coronavirus.

The Church of the Annunciation was built 120 years ago in East Melbourne and served as the only Greek Orthodox cathedral in Victoria for almost 60 years.

It was the first Greek Orthodox church to be built in the state and the second in Australia.

The first Greek Orthodox place of worship on the island continent was the Church of the Holy Trinity in Sydney.
