Australia: The restoration works of the Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti” in Northcote, Victoria

Since the beginning of this week, maintenance and restoration works are underway at the Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti” in Northcote, Victoria. The initial stage is to repair the damage found on the roof.

The project includes the restoration of damage that has built up due to lack of maintenance over the last decade and will be carried out with respect to the historical nature and special architectural design of the building complex.

Its implementation has been undertaken by the architectural office, “Andronas Conservation Architecture”, of the award-winning Greek architect, Mr Arthur Andronas. Mr Andronas’ practice has successfully undertaken a number of important restoration projects for prominent buildings in Australia. Among them is the restoration of the Victoria State Library, a project for which he won three awards last July at the “2020 Victoria Architecture Awards”.

One of these aforementioned awards relates to the practice for the preservation of the architectural heritage, a practice that will also be applied to the restoration work of the Holy Monastery of “Axion Esti”.
