Agreement reached to preserve Latrobe’s Modern Greek Studies Program

A campaign to preserve the Modern Greek Studies Program of Latrobe University has paid off, as a relevant agreement signed on Wednesday.
Among the institutions that lent their support was the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, which in addition to contributing financially to the program, encouraged students in its educational institutions to enroll in the program if studying at the Melbourne university.

The Archbishop of Australia, His Eminence Makarios, was represented at the signing ceremony by the Archi-episcopal Vicar of Northcote, Archimandrite Vassilopoulos.

The agreement was co-signed by the President of the Hellenic Community of Melbourne, Vassilis Papastergiadis, and on behalf of the University, by Vice Rector John Dewar.

La Trobe University is currently the only higher education institution in the State of Victoria that offers a comprehensive program in Modern Greek Studies from beginners’ to the doctorate level.
