Elder Ephraim of Vatopedi in hospital

Archimandrite Ephraim, the Superior Abbot of Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos is hospitalized in a clinic in Kiev, Ukraine after having suffered a heart attack, on Friday noon.

Elder Efraim is in Ukraine as a delegation member of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, to participate in the enthronement of “Metropolitan” Epiphany Dumenko in Kiev this Sunday, February 3.

After the arrival of his flight from Constantinople to Kiev, Elder Efraim felt intense sickness. As his condition got worse, he was carried to a clinic in Kiev where doctors diagnosed that he had had a heart attack. Doctors suggested his hospitalization due to previous heart problems – he recently underwent a quintuple bypass – and the fact that he is diabetic.
