LITURGICAL AND PATRISTIC TEXTS BEING TRANSLATED INTO ETHIOPIAN AMHARIC LANGUAGE
To date, no attempt has been made to translate liturgical and Patristic texts into the Ethiopian Amharic language. However, with the blessing of Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria, the Holy Archdiocese of Aksum aims to change that.
On Tuesday, the Archdiocese reported that it is undertaking a project to translate texts into Amharic, “so that the Ethiopian Orthodox faithful can actively participate in our worship life and taste the spiritual wealth of the ecclesiastical clergy.”
The text of the Divine Liturgy will soon be translated and published, and the first Amharic prayer book is also being prepared. The translation of the biography of St. Paisios, who is very dear to Orthodox Ethiopians, is also underway.
The Nicene Creed is already translated and ready for use in the Divine Liturgy.
Amharic is the working language of Ethiopia and the second-most common language of Ethiopia.
