Feast day of George, the New Martyr of Ioannina, patron saint of Greece’s presidential guard

The memory of George, the New Martyr of Ioannina, the patron saint of Greece’s presidential guard, is venerated today.
The saint, whose image is shows Him wearing the traditional kilt-like fustanella, also worn by members of the honor guard in front of Parliament and the president mansion, was declared the patron saint and protector of the guard in 2018.
