Father Gary Kyriacou Assigned to Saint Sophia Cathedral in Los Angeles
In planning for the forthcoming retirement of Rev. Father John Bakas, who has served as Dean of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles for 27 years, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco has assigned Rev. Father Gary Kyriacou to serve this community. In order to ensure a smooth transition, Father Gary will work along side Father Bakas beginning December 1, 2022 as Associate Pastor, as well as with the Cathedral Assistant Priest, Rev. Father Anthony Cornett. Following the retirement of Father Bakas in January 2023, Father Gary will become the Proistamenos of Saint Sophia Cathedral effective February 1, 2023, with Father Anthony remaining as Assistant Priest of the Cathedral.
Father Gary has served as a clergyman in the Metropolis of San Francisco since his ordination in 2001, first as the Assistant Priest at the Ascension Cathedral in Oakland, CA, and then as Proistamenos at Saint Demetrios in Camarillo, CA. He has most recently been serving as Pastor of Youth and Young Adult Ministries for the Metropolis, and as the Director of Ionian Village for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.
