Romanian State, religious denominations agree on setting up new national dialogue committee

Romania’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu met with representatives of religious denominations at Victoria Palace on Monday. The agenda focused on continuing dialogue and cooperation between the state and religious denominations to benefit believers and Romanian society.

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel represented the Romanian Orthodox Church and referred to the proposal to set up a new Committee for dialogue between the state and religious denominations.

“The establishment of the Committee for Dialogue between the State and religious denominations represents an important moment in the current cooperation between the State and religious denominations, a sign of the desire of the Romanian Government to find, through dialogue, solutions for the natural exercise of freedom of religion by citizens, but also some common projects, in a spirit of mutual respect,” the Patriarch of Romania said on Oct. 2.

“The Romanian Orthodox Church is convinced that, in cooperation with state institutions, it is called to bring, together with other religious denominations, a permanent and multiple contribution to the life of Romanian society, especially on a spiritual, cultural, educational and social-philanthropic level,” His Beatitude noted.

The Patriarch of Romania thanked the Government for its support offered to religious denominations and expressed his appreciation for the initiative to create the new dialogue committee.

Patriarch Daniel expressed his conviction that “through a necessary and natural cooperation”, the Romanian state and religious denominations in Romania will find answers to “the religious, social, cultural and educational challenges that have an impact on the life of the Romanian people.”

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu told the representatives of the religious denominations that the Romanian society is in a moment of reforms and cannot imagine this path “without your participation, expertise and above all your vision.”
