The beginning of the new Sunday School year in the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi
On Sunday, 8 October 2023, the Divine Liturgy took place at the Church of Saint George of the Makrochorion Community and was officiated by His Eminence Elder Metropolitan Apostolos of Derkoi.
After the dismissal of the Divine Liturgy, a Sanctification Service (Agiasmos) was conducted to bless the beginning of the new Sunday School year in the Holy Metropolis of Derkoi.
As it is well known, for two years now, a catechetical Sunday School has been operating for children between the ages of 4 and 15, and from this year a youth group for young people from 15 to 35 years of age will also begin.
In his speech, Metropolitan Apostolos emphasised the importance of the newly established catechetical schools for the spread of religious and social culture. Religion, language, ethics, traditions and customs were passed on to the new generations over time and are spread by the contribution of the Church. At the end, after thanking the Supervisory Committee of the Makrochorion Community, he distributed a sum of money to all the children to support them in their new school and Sunday School endeavours.
