Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens: We must mediate for peace among all people regardless of their religion
His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece called for the end of the war and the release of those abducted in Gaza during his meeting this morning with Professors of the University of Religions and Doctrines of Iran.
The Archbishop welcomed the delegation of professors and referred to the important history of Iran. He also stressed the possibility of academic cooperation, stressing that this activity cannot be left to books and research alone. “Seeing the needs of the world today, our mission is to find a way to use these theological attitudes as tools to help society,” said the Archbishop.
The Rector of the University thanked the Archbishop of Greece for the meeting and spoke about the importance of the history of Greece. He pointed out that there were great scientists in all fields, referring to ancient philosophers and modern medical scientists. He also spoke about Christianity and the interaction between Muslims and Orthodox Christians. He highlighted that there was great respect for Orthodox Christians. The Rector referred to the situation in Gaza, underlining that there was a lot of suffering there and, therefore, that the best solution would be dialogue.
The Archbishop added: “Our peoples will ask us what we discussed today. We must emphasise four more points. Firstly, we must stop the war and start a dialogue. We must release the abductees immediately. We do not know where they are and what condition they are in. And of course children and civilians must not be used as forerunners from any side. Finally, the mission of all of us, beyond scientific research, must be the insistence to mediate for peace among all people regardless of their religion.”
