FIRST PASTORAL VISIT TO THE IVORY COAST
Since yesterday, Saturday, June 8, 2024, H.E. Metropolitan of Accra Daniel, is making his first pastoral visit to the Republic of the Ivory Coast (République de Côte d’Ivoire).
The country of Ivory Coast borders Ghana to the east and is one of the three countries under the spiritual jurisdiction of the Metropolis of Accra along with Mali.
On the 6th Sunday from Holy Easter, H.E. Daniel traveled 75 km in order to visit the small Orthodox Community in the town of Agboville, where there is the Parish Church of St. Nektarios Bishop of Pentapolis.
A Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated with co-celebrants the Rev. father Jeremie Benhanzin, Vicar in Abidjan, the Rev. father Sebastian and the Deacon Barnabas.
It should be noted that this is the first time that a Bishop has celebrated the Holy Eucharist in the Parish after its establishment.
The faithful, excited by the presence of their spiritual Father and Pastor, all sang together during the Divine Liturgy. The presence, the contribution and the ministry of the Orthodox youths from the region was touching.
Metropolitan Daniel conveyed the paternal love and blessing of the Alexandrian Primate, Pope and Patriarch Theodore II and spoke to the congregation about Saint Nektarios, patron of the Parish and the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
“You are the blessed children of the Apostle Mark and Saint Nektarios. I ask you in the difficulties of your life, to turn your gaze and your heart towards the spiritual “Lighthouse” of Alexandria, which for thousands of years has shone the unquenchable light of love and of the truth of Christ. This light shines more strongly from Alexandria to your humble but blessed village. Every time you look at his Holy Icon, he speaks to you and leads you there: to Alexandria, to the crib of Christianity in Africa,” said.
After the Divine Liturgy, a meal was offered to all the faithful, by Mr. Yassin’s family of Lebanese origin, at his home.
