A 1,500-year-old inscription in Greek, bearing the name “Christ, born of Mary” was unearthed in northern Israel, and specifically, in the Jezreel Valley, the country’s antiquities authority announced on Wednesday.

Archaeologists discovered the inscription engraved at the entrance of an impressive building from the Byzantine or early Islamic era, featuring mosaics decorated in a geometric design.

The finding was unveiled during an exploratory excavation ahead of the construction of a road within the village of Taiba.
