An extraordinary meeting was held at the building of Metropolis of Neapolis and Stavroupolis in Thessaloniki, Greece on Sunday chaired by Citizen Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias and the president of National Public Health Organisation Panagiotis Arkoumaneas after the detection of the South African COVID-19 strain in the area.

“The first detection of the mutation was found in the area of Thessaloniki, there is no reason to panic. The strain was found at a church official. In any case with the assistance of the Metropolis and of the people of the parishes involved we will conduct sweeping tests in the wider regions and follow the contacts’ path” Hardalias said.

He also said that they do not know how it came to Greece. We have some indications and we will take the necessary measures.

Hardalias also said that we will move according to the plan and the vaccination will continue as normal.
