The Abbess Efthymia, of the Holy Monastery of St. John the Baptist, near the town of Metamorphosi in northern Greece’s Halkidiki prefecture, reposed this week at the age of 88, with the cause of death attributed to heart disease. A funeral service will be held on Holy Thursday at the monastery.
Five months before, the monastery’s spiritual father, the Elder Grigorios also reposed in the Lord. The specific nunnery was frequently visited by St. Paisios, who personally selected the nun Efthymia as its abbess.
