On Thursday 3rd Sept 2020, the Clergy of NSW, as part of their ongoing education and upskilling, attended a seminar on “The Implementation of Child Safe Standards”, presented by Khouriyeh Myriam, the Archdiocesan Child Safety Officer.
She focussed on the 10 standards:
- Organisational leadership
- Children participate in decisions that affect them
- Families and communities are informed and involved
- Equity is upheld and diverse needs taken into account
- People working with children are suitable and supported
- Process to respond to complaints of child abuse (or other concerns) are child-focused
- Staff are equipped with knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children safe, through continual education and training
- Physical and online environments minimise opportunities for abuse or other kinds of harm
- Implementation of Child Safe Standards is continuously reviewed and improved
- Policies and procedure documents how the org is child safe
