Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America: Lebanese Community in New York City honors Metropolitan Joseph
In conjunction with the visit of Lebanese Foreign Minister to the United Nations General Assembly, the Lebanese community in New York awarded His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph during its annual Lebanese Heritage Day celebration in the Brooklyn Borough Hall on Monday.
Sponsors included Brooklyn Borough President, Mr. Eric Adams, and the Lebanese Consulate in New York under the patronage of His Excellency Gebran Bassil, the Foreign Minister of Lebanon, Mr. Majdi Ramadan, the Consul General of Lebanon in New York and Mr. John H. Abi-Habib, the Honorary Consul of Lebanon in New Jersey.
The award is given annually to a leader in the Lebanese community. In his response, His Eminence gave thanks for this honor and stressed the need for unity in Lebanon as the country faces many obstacles from within and from the outside. Only then can the Lebanese overcome the difficulties they face. He also commended Mr. Bassil for his good example and hard work on behalf of the large and influential Lebanese diaspora all over the world, congratulating him for his excellent speech he gave in London the previous week about building synergies between the Lebanese and British tech sectors.
Mr. Adams then presented Metropolitan Joseph with a Citation from the Borough on behalf of all Brooklyn residents. Sayidna thanked him as well for the additional honor.
A sizable delegation came to honor Sayidna Joseph: Fr. Thomas Zain, Vicar General and Dean of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Brooklyn, who introduced His Eminence before he received his awards; Fr. Dimitri Darwich of St. George Church in Little Falls, New Jersey; and Fr. Michael Ibrahim of St. Anthony Church in Bergenfield, New Jersey.
Members of the Archdiocesan Board of Trustees present were the vice-chairman, Mr. Fawaz El Khoury; secretary of the Archdiocese and pastor of St. Mary Church in Bay Ridge-Brooklyn, Fr. Michael Ellias; Mr. Salim Abboud, chief financial officer; Archdeacon Emile Sayegh, chancellor; and members Mr. Ed Assile and Mr. Majed Nesheiwat.
