Archbishop Elpidophoros of America Honors the Memory of Archon Nicholas J. Bouras at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine

On Sunday, January 7, 2024, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America presided over the Divine Liturgy and 10 year memorial service for the late Nicholas J. Bouras, Archon Depoutatos, at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church & National Shrine.

Nicholas, with his wife Ann, who is also remembered with love, made substantial contributions to the Most Holy Ecumenical Patriarchate, the Sacred Archdiocese of America, the parishes in New Jersey they held dear, and more. The Foundation in the Bouras’s name has continued to contribute to uplifting and supporting our Holy Church. The Nicholas J. and Anna K. Bouras Foundation supported the construction of the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church & National Shrine where the service was held. Archon Bouras’s fellow Archons, including National Commander Dr. Anthony J. Limberakis, filled the Shrine, joining His Eminence in honoring Bouras’s memory.

Joining His Eminence for the service was Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Alexander Karloutsos, Dean of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church & National Shrine Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Andreas Vithoulkas, Rev. Fr. Samuel Davis of St. Simon of Cyrene Orthodox Mission in New Brunswick, New Jersey of the Orthodox Church in America, Rev. Protopresbyter Peter Delvizis of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Westfield, New Jersey, and Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris,

“Archon Nicholas was by no means the most prosperous member of the Omogeneia, but I would say that he may have been the richest…because he understood value of his prosperity, and how to help others. He was generous to a fault, more than simply responsive to a request. He did not wait to be called to do good with the goods of his life. He offered first and without judgment” said Archbishop Elpidophoros.

At the conclusion of the service, His Eminence cut a Vasilopita with the St. Nicholas community. Archon Mike Manatos received the flouri.
