Archbishop Elpidophoros Presides Over Agiasmos and Door Opening of New Building at Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church Brookville, New York

Saturday, December 16, 2023 His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America presided over the Agiasmos and door opening of the new Fellowship Hall and Gymnasium of Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church in Brookville, New York. The community of Holy Resurrection warmly welcomed His Eminence and other dignitaries to celebrate this milestone. Archbishop Elpidophoros was joined by Archbishop Demetrios, former of America, Chancellor of the Direct Archdiocesan District Fr. Elias Villis, parish priest Fr. Panteleimon Papadopoulos, Parish Council President Stephanie Clark and members of the parish council, Consul General of Greece in New York Konstantinos Konstantinou, Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman, Mayor of Brookville Daniel H. Serota, Mayor of Glen Cove Pamela D. Panzenbeck, Deputy Mayor of Glen Cove Donna McNaughton, Former Congressman Tom Suozzi, Judge Helen Voutsinas, Glen Cove Councilman-elect Michal Ktistakis, Oyster Bay Councilman Lou Imbroto, Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, New York Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz, Glen Cove City Councilman Grady Farnan, local clergy, and members of the community.

The Agiasmos ceremony commenced at the Holy Resurrection Church where Archbishop Elpidophoros then led a procession to the newly constructed facility. The children of Holy Resurrection and dignitaries present joined His Eminence in the ceremonial ribbon cutting and continued the Agiasmos outside and inside the doors, officially marking the opening of the new community center.

The community then gathered in the new facility where Archbishop Epidophoros, offered welcome remarks, stating, “Within this Hall you will engage the fulness of the life of your Parish. The sacred space of the church is reserved for the Mysteries and Worship of the Church. But these are not the only aspects of a parish’s life. Education, social activities, and above all community – or fellowship – are as vital to the Body of the Church as is Communion.” Also addressing those gathered were Archbishop Demetrios, Fr. Papadopoulos and civic and community leaders.

Fr. Papadopoulos invited His Eminence to shoot the honorary first basketball. After attempts by Archbishop Elpidophoros and other leaders, the facility was officially inaugurated when a young boy from Holy Resurrection took the shot, successfully making the basket. His peers circled him, and the community erupted in joyous cheers and applause.
