The fluid situation in the east Mediterranean and thorny Greek-Turkish relations were discussed during meetings that visiting Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had this week in the United States with representatives of Greek-American organizations, as well as with the Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros.

Additionally, His Eminence presided for the first time, since he was enthroned as the Archbishop of America last June, at the annual 114th celebration of Theophany, or Epiphany, officiating at the hierarchal Divine Liturgy at the St. Nicholas Cathedral in Tarpons Springs, Florida, followed by the Great Blessing Service of the Waters and the dive for the Cross in Spring Bayou. Many thousands of pilgrims and visitors attended the festivities.

For the first time in the history of Tarpon Springs, a sitting prime minister of Greece was in attendance.

On his part, Mitsotakis said he personally knows Elpidophoros, saying his name, Greek for “bringer of hope”, conveys the hope for better days for Hellenism in America and everywhere in the world. He also noted that the Greek state will financially support the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School Of Theology in the Boston area.
