The northwest city of Arta today commemorates and celebrates the feast day of St. Maximus the Greek, a native of the region.
On the eve of the feast day, a con-celebratory archieratical Vespers was held at a dedicated Cathedral to the saint, officiated by the Metropolitan of Cephallonia, His Eminence Demetrios, and co-officiated by the Metropolitan of Arta, His Eminence Kallinikos.
In a brief sermon, His Eminence Demetrios emphasized that “…St. Maximus continues to illuminate through the centuries with Orthodox faith, Hellenic learning and ethnic Greek tradition.”
On his part, His Eminence Kallinikos spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency about the significant works and shining personality of the 16th saint.
