Balloon angioplasty and stents placement for Elder Ephraim of Vatopedi

Archimandrite Ephraim, the Superior Abbot of Vatopedi Monastery on Mount Athos, is hospitalized in a clinic in Europe after balloon angioplasty and stents placement he underwent on Tuesday, February 5th. Elder Ephraim suffered a heart attack, on Friday noon, soon after the arrival of his flight from Constantinople to Kiev. The coronary angiography forced doctors to intervene with five PCIs, (balloon angioplasty) and to place two more stents to reopen grafted arteries. 1,5 year ago, Elder Ephraim had 5 more stents placed. The doctors recommended that Elder Ephraim should rest and stay in hospital as medical follow-up is necessary.
