At its first meeting under the presidency of the newly elected Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Bulgaria made significant decisions concerning the administration of the church.

The Holy Synod decided to appoint Bishop Pahomios of Vranitsa as the first auxiliary bishop to the new Patriarch of Bulgaria. Bishop Pahomios will assume his new duties immediately, strengthening the spiritual and administrative leadership of the Metropolis of Sofia.

Secondly, Archimandrite Meletios (Spasov), who has been serving as the deputy director of the Sofia Theological Seminary, was appointed as the new director of the seminary. Archimandrite Meletios’ appointment will take effect on 9 July 2024.

Finally, at the request of Patriarch Daniel, the Holy Synod confirmed the appointment of Hieromonk Ioannis (Peshev) as the Protosyncellus of the Holy Metropolis of Sofia.
