A celebratory Divine Liturgy was held over the weekend at the crypt of Saint-Victor, in a cathedral at the same-name abbey in the French port city Marseille.
St. Victor of Marseilles, a Roman army officer who was martyred for converting to Christianity in the late second century, is the patron saint of the historic Mediterranean port city.

A miraculous icon of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple was discovered at the crypt in roughly 1000 AD, with a Divine Liturgy annual held on the Feast Day, every Feb. 2, at the site of the icon’s discovery.

The Bishop of Melitini, His Grace Maximos, the vicar general of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of France, officiated at the Divine Liturgy.

Thousands of pilgrims throughout southern France had arrived at the site of the St. Victor’s martyrdom to venerate his memory.
