Children Christmas celebration organized in Damascus by Russian Orthodox Church, other Russian institutions

A Christmas celebration for children was organized in Damascus by the Russian Orthodox Church, the Russian embassy in the Syrian capital and the Russian center for science and culture.
Most of the children in attendance were displaced residents from the town of Al-Zabadani, on the mountainous border with Lebanon, which was at one time was occupied by jihadis and militants during the civil war in Syria.

Gifts collected by parishes in Russia were distributed to the children.

The Russian Orthodox Church, in cooperation with other institutions, has spearheaded a number of initiatives to rebuild churches, schools and hospitals damaged during the Syrian civil war.
