Church desecrated, robbed in Odessa Province

Unknown perpetrators organized an attack on a church in the village of Semenovka in the Odessa Province yesterday and stole donations from the church.

The attack was announced by the deputy of the Odessa Province Council Irina Kovalish on her Facebook page.

Her message reads:
Another attack on an Orthodox church…

There was an attack on a church in the village of Semenovka in the Belgorod-Dniester Region on the night of December 26. Unknown persons arranged a pogrom, stole the donations, and desecrated the church premises.

The day before, the local parishioners and the rector of the church built in honor of St. Demetrios by Archpriest Andrei decorated the premises for the New Year’s and Nativity feasts.

This is far from the first attack on churches of the UOC in the Belgorod-Dniester Region in my memory as a deputy. Since the time of the revolution, atheists have attacked just this Semenovka church five times! But I don’t remember a single case where the vandals were found.

P.S. Much is said today about religion, about the Church, about faith. The President’s tongue nearly fell off, advertising the tomos so much. Millions of Ukrainians, barely getting by, have been zombified by autocephaly. Looking at the photos of such an outrage in a church, I recall the words of the great Bulgakov about the ruin in their heads and I understand that the moral ugliness and misery of the soul will not be healed by renaming the Ukrainian Orthodox Church into the Russian Orthodox Church.

Theft is unfortunately quite common in the Belgorod-Dniester Region lately. Representatives from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe met with the deans of the churches in the region in February when more than 20 thefts were committed in churches of the Odessa Diocese and they came again in November to discuss the situation, according to the site of the Odessa Diocese.
