During its working session on Feb. 7, the Permanent Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church declared 2020 as Commemorative Year of Saint Nectarios of Aegina, marking the 100th anniversary of his blessed repose in the Lord.
The hierarchs announced that the annual Diptycha volume of the Church of Greece for 2020, containing details regarding the organization of all local Orthodox Churches, will honour the great wonderworker Saint Nectarios who died on November 8, 1920.
Saint Nectarios was glorified by the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 1961 with feast day on November 9.
Particles of the holy relics of Saint Nectarios are enshrined at Radu Voda Monastery in Bucharest, where thousands of pilgrims arrive every week to ask for help and comfort in their struggle with different sicknesses, including cancer.
In Romania there are several palliative care centres for advanced cancer patients. The most well known are in Bucharest and Cluj, both being protected by Saint Nectarios of Aegina.
