Church of Greece Holy Synod to elect 3 new Metropolitans this week
The permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece continued to convene this week, as Friday looms as the day when Church hierarchs will vote to fill the vacancies of the Metropolises of Fthiotida, Kalavryta and Limnos-Aghios Efstratios.
As previously reported, an extraordinary Holy Synod session has been scheduled for Saturday to discuss an expected recommendation by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, regarding the issue of the Tomos of Autocephaly for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
After today’s session, the Holy Synod’s spokesman, the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos, His Eminence Ierotheos, said the Archbishop addressed hierarchs, setting out the agenda for the coming ecclesiastical year.
In his reply, this most senior cleric of the Holy Synod and vice-chairman, the Metropolitan of Karystia and Skyros, His Eminence Seraphim, noted that “… it is well-known that we are a Church hierarchy with the most members, ones shielded from outside influences, so we can freely express our opinions, and take a decision on over discussed issues, within the boundaries of our responsibilities and well-meaning matters of our Church and Orthodoxy, in general.”
