Today marks the 2nd Wednesday after Pascha, Holy and Great Easter.

The Church today venerates the memory of Jason and Sosipater, the Apostles of the 70 and their Companions.

Both of these saints were disciples of the Apostle Paul, who mentions them in his Epistle to the Romans. Jason was from Tarsus of Cilicia, in southeast Asia Minor, and became bishop there. Sosipater was from the Greek city of Patras, in Achaia, and became Bishop of Iconium.

Towards the end of their life-long ministry, they arrived on the Ionian island of Corfu, to preach the Gospel. They suffered many ordeals for Christ’s Name, drew many souls to salvation, and finished the course of their life on the island. In the ancient city of Corfu, an early Christian basilica built in their honor bears inscriptions that cite the saints by name, verifying the historical account of their biographies.
