Today is the 4th Monday after Pascha, Great and Holy Easter.

The Church today also venerates the memory of Methodius and Cyril, Equal-to-the Apostles, Illuminators of the Slav peoples.

May the 11th is also commemorated by Orthodoxy as the Renewal of the Great City of Constantinople.

The settlement of Byzantium, on the Bosporus, was chosen by Roman Emperor Constantine the Great in 330 to become the empire’s new capital, a “New Rome”, a Christian metropolis dedicated to the Panaghia, the Virgin Mary.

The city later took his name, venerable and fabled Constantinople.
