The Church today venerates the memory of St. Cornelius, a Roman centurion who became a Christian after he was catechized by St. Peter in the Faith of Christ. His preaching and missionary work caused an intense reaction by the pagans in the city of Caesarea.
He was persecuted and martyred for his faith.
