Turkish municipal employees on Friday arrived at the iconic Hagia Sophia Cathedral, the greatest of all churches of Eastern Christendom, to carry out the cleaning and disinfection of the cathedral, which has been transformed into a museum for the past few decades.
Television footage showed workers wearing protective gear as they cleaned and disinfected the whole area inside and around the Cathedral, part of efforts to contain the coronavirus.
Turkish authorities have so far claimed only five confirmed cases, generating skepticism on the part of global health officials and the media.
