The Church today venerates the icon of the Panagia Paramyth-I-a, attributed in English as the Vatopedi Mother of Consolation or Comfort.
The miraculous 8th century icon of the Virgin Mary, adorning the right wall of a chapel at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos, is annually commemorated on January 21.
The icon has for centuries comforted the afflicted, consoled the faint-hearted and inspired repentance in supplicants.
During a historic visit by the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi in October 2019, the Ecumenical Patriarch prayed before the Holy Icon of the Panagia Paramyth-I-a.
