The months-old Greek government’s intent to raise spending, by 28 percent, for public investments undertaken by the tourism ministry, comes amid strengthened cooperation between the relevant ministry and the culture ministry, on one hand, and the Churches of Greece and Crete, on the other, in order to boost religious tourism and pilgrimages to the country.
The ministry’s initiatives were detailed by Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis during debate this week for the 2020 state budget.
