The customary assurance that he will honor, love and respect the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople was given by the newly elected Archbishop of Cyprus Georgios, in a letter conveyed to the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All-Holiness Bartholomew I.
In the letter, Georgios, the up-until-now Metropolitan of Paphos, declared his commitment to decisions of the seven Ecumenical Councils, assuring that he will work to preserve the unity and cooperation with local Orthodox Churches.
The Ecumenical Patriarch, on his part, in his congratulatory letter, invited Georgios to struggle for the protection of the faith.
Additionally, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Beatitude Theodoros II, expressed his great joy over the election of Metropolitan Georgios as the new Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus, conveying a Patriarchal letter of congratulations.
The Patriarch of Alexandria, noted, among others, that “…the news of Your election to the renowned Throne of the Apostolic and Ancient Church of Cyprus reached the land of the Nile and our hearing, as the breeze of Aermon, which gladdened me personally as well as the Hierarchs and clergy of our Ancient Church of St. Mark, and we cried out Axios.”
Similar congratulations were conveyed by Greek Parliament Deputy Maximos Harakopoulos, the Secretary General of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy.
