Cyprus: Copper plaque stolen from late President Papadopoulos’ tombstone

Police on Sunday said they were looking for information on the theft of a copper plaque from the tombstone of former President Tassos Papadopoulos.

The plaque, depicting Papadopoulos, was reported stolen on Sunday morning, along with two copper crosses from other graves from the old cemetery of Deftera village, in the Nicosia district. The plaque’s estimated worth is €1,000 and that of the two crosses, €200 in total.

The thefts are believed to have taken place sometime during the past week.

Police launched investigations.

Members of the public are urged to call 1460 if they posses any information as regards the case, or the Nicosia CID at 22-802222 or the nearest police station.
