The mayor of Lefkonikos, on the eastern Mediterranean island of Cyprus, this week charged that the number of ecclesiastical and liturgical items looted from areas occupied by the Turkish military on Cyprus exceeds 60,000. Mayor Zina Lyssandrou cited the widespread destruction of churches, the theft of icons, mosaics and other objects, as well as the desecration of cemeteries in the occupied areas of Cyprus.
