Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk visits Russian Embassy in Pyongyang

On 25 November 2018, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk and the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church led by him visited the diplomatic representation of the Russian Federation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

The chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations laid flowers to the memorial plaque dedicated to Andrei Karlov, Hero of Russia, who from 2001 to 2006 was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the DPRK. After that Metropolitan Hilarion met with compatriots – parishioners of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Pyongyang, and staff members of the diplomatic corps. After the meeting Mr. Alexander Matsegora, Russian Ambassador in Pyongyang, gave a reception in honour of the delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church.

That same day the DECR chairman, together with Archbishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, administrator of the Moscow Patriarchate’s parishes in East and Southeast Asia, Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora, and other members of the Russian Church’s delegation visited the Kumsusan Palace and other sights in Pyongyang, and laid flowers to the monument to the Soviet soldiers on Moranbong Hill. At the memorial cross at the Soviet cemetery in the Sadong district, the DECR chairman celebrated a requiem litiya for the deceased compatriots.
