Divine Liturgies were celebrated in Orthodox Churches around the small Adriatic country of Montenegro on Sunday, although strict conditions were in place to prevent any exposure to the coronavirus (Covid-19), such as a cap on the number of worshippers attending and prescribed distances between them.

Additionally, the Holy Communion was given to each worshipper in his place in the pews, with the officiating priest moving from one worshipper to the other.

The easing on the previous restriction on Church services in the country comes after contacts between the Metropolitan Bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amphilochios, with Montenegro PM Dusko Markovic, the relevant justice minister and the head of police in Montenegro.

The Orthodox Church in Montenegro has repeatedly stated that it will respect all directives issued by the government for protection from Covid-19, while at the same time continuing to support its flock, spiritually, and those of the faithful in need of the Divine Liturgy and Holy Communion.
