Public debate has began over a draft bill that includes a provision changing the status of churches and chapels within municipal cemeteries, whereby their authority is transferred from the townships to the Orthodox Church’s metropolises who have ecclesiastical jurisdiction over the specific locations.

Meanwhile, the Metropolitan of Ilion, Aharnon and Petroupoli, His Eminence Athinagoras, met this week with Greece’s deputy labor and social solidarity minister, Domna Michailidou, at the latter’s office.

His Eminence, who leads a Metropolis that includes a large portion of west Athens, has requested state programs and assistance to increase the social inclusion of Roma residents living in these districts.
